Triangle Works and the Schoolhouse Site on Appian Way

Last month, Triangle Works hosted our second Open Air Market, or OAM, at the former El Sobrante Christian School property (5070 Appian Way).

Attendance was good, and the response from participants has been overwhelmingly positive. Through this recurring event, we are working to build the Triangle's community, just as we do with our murals, mixers, programs at The Shed, and support of the PJ Farmers Market.

For the most recent OAM, we joined forces with Green Team to clean up the site. We’ve generated live music, brought benches and chairs for attendees to sit, and sealed off dangerous broken glass onsite that was waiting for disaster. In the hope of keeping the OAM fresh and supporting our local economy, we hope more people will join to sell handmade or refurbished goods at the Open Air Market.

The fate of the schoolhouse site remains undetermined

Central Assembly of Richmond is working to revitalize the former schoolhouse property into a community asset within the Triangle Mixed-Use Area. The site displays our lovely 2023 community mural, and it has hosted our growing OAM this year.

Email us to join the Triangle Works Schoolhouse Committee as we continue to work with the landowners in influencing what will ultimately happen there. Educate yourself on current hopes of the property owner at: Community Updates: Central Assembly.

We're recruiting vendors and event volunteers to help make the Open Air Market great

While the site awaits funding to clean up small amounts of dry cleaning solution deep in the soil, we will continue to plan and grow the OAM. This takes community hearts, minds and planning, and we need people to continue to pull it off. Our next market is tentatively set for Sunday, June 14. Sign up to be a vendor for $30, or join the OAM planning team.
